“Bronny” James Jr., 19, joins his father, Lebron James, in the Lakers with the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft on June 28, 2024, after going unselected in the first round.

“Not a feeling in the world better than being around raising my boys to MEN!” Lebron James said. “Pops over here getting emotional just thinking about y’all journey so far! Thank you both for allowing me to be your DAD and part of your compass through life’s trials and tribulations.”

Bronny was playing as a guard out of the University of Southern California.

Despite less initial hype than when Lebron was selected with the No. 1 overall pick in 2003, the idea of a father and son playing together sparked conversation on whether it was an incredible feat or nepotism.

Social media commenters mentioned Bronny’s freshman season, where he averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game while shooting below 40% from the field.
