Former state Rep. Betty L. Thompson has been named recipient of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Award from University City. Thompson was one of the founders and, for more than a quarter century, has organized the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. St. Louis Support Group.
The support group deals with the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. philosophy in non-violence, and helps young people to deal with conflict resolution, and how to handle other problems plaguing all youth today.
Thompson has been active in University City, where she served 18 years on the University City Council, and 4 years with St. Louis County government.
