I must say that it came as a shock to me when Fox 2 gave the chop to longtime on-air personality April Simpson last week. Word on the curb was that it was because she was accused of being culturally insensitive towards an intern. I also heard that she wasn’t the only one who called the young man called him “Bruce LeRoy” because he actually looked like Taimak (yes, I’m that much of a “Last Dragon” fan that  I know his real name off of the dome) and not because he was part black and part Asian. But I also got word that a co-worker encouraged the intern to take his concerns to human resources, which ultimately led to her being let go. Cultural insensitivity is never okay, but I really think they should’ve worked to resolve the issue before April was terminated. In my opinion it was the least they could do after she suffered through being pelted with hamburgers on national television, but that’s just me. I don’t have any clue about what went on behind the scenes over there – and there may be much more to it – but I do wish April the best.

  1. She was on her way out anyways. I think the brain tumor was an excuse for her to act the way she did and embarrassed most of the staff. I watched it many times when these reporters were actually stunned which some of the stuff that came out of her mouth. Glen Zimmerman actually said we need to go out for a drink after work basically possibly to talk about the way you’re acting. She embarrassed him many times. Sometimes I had to change the channel because I was embarrassed for the other people that were working with her. Brain tumor or no brain tumor that’s her personality.
