Stephanie Mills will return to the play that put her on the map in the music industry when she assumes the role of Aunt Em when NBC adapts ‘The Wiz’ for television towards the end of this year.
She portrayed the play’s lead character Dorothy in Broadway’s “The Wiz” in 1975 and in a 1984 revival.
The network is said to be in search of a newcomer to assume the role of Dorothy – and no additional information regarding the ensemble has been released.
The production will air on Dec. 3, with plans to bring it to the Broadway in the 2016-17 season.
