As you know, son number four started kindergarten this year, and it was a big adjustment … for me.

He seemed fine with it, until he realized that he could not come home at noon, lay on his favorite couch and eat lunch with me outside.

“Mommy, I think my day is too long in kindergarten. Can you come by and pick me up every day at noon? I’ll let Mrs. Brinkman know.”

I assured him that he would get used to it.

Well, each week, I have been going into his class on Thursdays and helping out his teacher, Mrs. Brinkman.

I have had some fun time with the children as they always have their own unique way of thinking about life.

“I want to be an artist when I grow up,” one little boy informed me. “I am really good at drawing guns.”

“I want to be a monster truck driver.”

“I want to be a worker.”

“I want to be a mommy.”

“I want to be a bicycle rider, I’m really good at that.”

“I don’t know what I want to be. Do I have enough time to think about it a little more?”

This week when I went in, I asked all of the children what they liked about or would miss about Mrs. Brinkman. Here is what they said.

Out of a class of 22:

Ten said, “I think she is nice.”

Four said, “She is a good teacher.”

Two said, “I don’t know.”

Two said, “I think she is pretty.”

One fashion-forward little girl said, “I really like her clothes.”

One said, “You know what? She is mostly never mean.”

One said, “She gives us good snacks.”

One last child asked, “ Is she going somewhere?”

Kindergarten is so special and it goes so fast. I know what I will miss about Mrs. Brinkman. I will miss the way she enjoys each child and encourages them to be their best. I will miss her enthusiasm whenever I or any parent would show up to help out. I will miss how she relates to the children and gives them so much love.

I will especially miss how patient she is and how she listens to every child’s stories, of frogs they found, dogs they lost, boo boos on their knees and why they think they should be the line leader, especially my son.

I will also miss kindergarten, because this is the last child of mine to attend. I could not have picked a better finale for a teacher than Mrs. Brinkman.

From Cason’s mom, to you.

Thanks for sharing.
