President Barack Obama is recruiting a new partner to help in his re-election campaign – Big Bird. After Mitt Romney stated he would eliminate funding for PBS as part of his plan to cut federal spending, the president’s campaign is poking fun at his opponent in its latest ad.

The video shows images of financial sector criminals Bernie Madoff, Ken Lay and Dennis Kozlowski and suggests that Romney believes Sesame Street’s Big Bird is the mastermind behind the the financial schemes that helped plummet the economy.

Obama has also made light-hearted mentions of Big Bird on the campaign trail.

“We didn’t know that Big Bird was driving the federal deficit,” said the president at an Oct. 4 rally.

Meanwhile, the GOP has blasted the president’s use of Big Bird in his campaign ad, suggesting it shows he would rather poke fun at Romney than address issues facing Americans. Ironically, the GOP released it’s own Sesame Street themed ad featuring The Count, criticizing Obama’s mentions of Big Bird and Elmo on the campaign trail.
