Rev. Sekou, Bree Newsome, Darren Seals and Cornel West

Darren Seals wearing his signature "Straight Outta Ferguson" t-shirt as he posed with fellow activists Rev. Osagyefo Sekou, Bree Newsome and Dr. Cornel West during the "Ferguson is Everywhere" hip-hop concert on August 9, 2015. The show was part of the programming for the one-year anniversary commemoration of the Ferguson uprising.

A locally known Ferguson activist who protested in the streets seeking justice for Michael Brown Jr.’s death was killed early Tuesday, September 6 in North St. Louis County.

Darren Seals, 29, was a factory line worker and hip-hop musician. Following the death of Mike Brown – an unarmed black teenager who was fatally shot by a white Ferguson police officer – Seals protested in the streets of Ferguson.

Seals was extremely vocal about issues surrounding Brown’s death and the St. Louis region. He was featured in national news outlets such as The Washington Post and Al Jazeera.

Seals recently uploaded a Facebook Live video sharing his own encounter with the Ferguson Police Department, saying police drew guns on him and his younger brother. Seals described himself on his Twitter profile as a “Businessman, Revolutionary, Activist, Unapologetically BLACK, Afrikan in AmeriKKKa, Fighter, Leader.”

Fellow activists took to social media to mourn his loss. Ashley Yates, an activist who protested in Ferguson, wrote “Darren King D Seals stood for Mike Brown and is and will always be a part of my Ferguson family. Rest in power, D.”

Carlos Ball, the brother of Cary Ball Jr., who was killed by St. Louis Police in 2013, replaced his Facebook profile picture with Seals’ profile picture, which was taken as part of the portrait series This is the Movement.

According to the St. Louis County Police Department, at approximately 1:50 a.m. on September 6, its Bureau of Crimes Against Persons and Bomb and Arson Unit were requested to assist the City of Riverview for a vehicle fire in the 9600 block of Diamond Drive.

Police say their investigation revealed that Seals suffered a gunshot wound before the car was set on fire. The incident is currently being investigated as a homicide.

The St. Louis County Police Department asks that the public contact them at (314) 615-5400 or CrimeStoppers at (866) 371-8477 if you have any information regarding the incident.

I am not one to play by the Marxian Playbook, and i am opposed to any Black activism; call me a mere Christian.

WA Post has an extended article on this

Who killed Ferguson activist Darren Seals?

They point out the careless handling of evidence at the scene.

What happened? Who did it?

Hope to learn more soon.

Tell the truth.

If a cop had shot him would the media say he died? I think not. It would say he was murdered! The media has its own agenda. Reporting the truth is not part of the agenda. Is it?

I want to know why the media will not report the truth. The headline days the man died at age 29. If you read the article it is clear the man was murdered. There is a big difference. It is no wonder why people don't trust the media.

Someone fire the copy editor who wrote this headline. Seals was murdered. Saying he "dies" makes it sound like there was nothing nefarious about his death. "Dies" applies to cancer or kidney failure or old age, not to murder.

This young man was murdered after standing up and speaking out against human abuses by the police. He is found on fire obviously to cover up and destroy the evidence of murderer. How many other out spoken and justice seeking men have had their bodies altered to disguise or hide the killers identity?

[sad] Sadly, if he was gullible enough to believe in Michael Brown's innocence, it probably wasn't too difficult for someone to lure him into danger. Bummer. Rest in peace.

The unanswered question of the whole Michael Brown saga remains unaddressed.
Why on the eve of being accepted for college where he would be in a minority among whites did he commit under the watchful eye of CCTV a robbery with violence likely to land him in prison where his 6 ft 5" stature would make him literally a "big man" among the black minority.
Are we to believe that he was not familiar with the surveillance in his local stores?
Are we to believe that Ferguson was run on the basis that it was OK for a black youth to push to the floor the Oriental proprietor (and taxpayer) of a store.?

Well that's some mighty fine police work. How did they figure that out?
Why doesn't your headline read "murdered" instead of dies

Somewhere many cops are snickering and high fiving each other
