According to KMOV.com, a man has been charged in the murder of 44-year-old Tabitha Milton-Rush, who was found dead in an embankment along Interstate 255 in Bethalo, Ill. Saturday morning.
Ramon Reed, 46, was charged Monday with first-degree murder.
Police said Reed and Milton-Rush were in a vehicle on I-255 about one mile north of Illinois Route 140 when he shot her multiple times. He then dumped her body and drove away from the scene.
Milton-Rush’s body was found with multiple gunshot wounds to the head around 9 a.m. Saturday. Police responded to the scene and Milton-Rush was pronounced dead at about 9:50 a.m.
Investigators told KMOV-TV they identified Reed as a suspect early in the investigation.
They said Reed contacted officers after learning he was a suspect and went to the Bethalto Police Department early Sunday morning. He was held for questioning and later arrested.
According to police, Reed and Milton-Rush knew each other and had a previous dating history.
He remains in custody at the Bethalto Police Department and will transferred to the Madison County Jail where his bail was set at $1 million.
