Sally Venorh (Freeman) Gholston was the youngest of four siblings born to the union of James and Sally Foster Freeman of Aberdeen, MS. She received her formal education in the St. Louis Public Schools system. Sally started her Christian journey at an early age at St. Luke Memorial Baptist church under Pastor James Foster, her grandpa.

On August 18, 1934, Sally was united in Holy Matrimony to Everett Lee Gholston, Sr., who preceded her in death, and to this union three children were born. The eldest, Evelyn “Bebe” Beatrice Gholston, preceded her in death, Dorothy Mae “Dot” Gholston and Everett “Brother” Lee Gholston, II.

Sally and her husband joined St. John AME Church in 1954, where she was a devoted member until her recent illness. She was committed to several organizations, serving 15 years as President of the Re-Lit-So Club, 35 years in the Sampson and Delilah Club on the Finance Committee and was the Emeritus in the Nora F. Taylor Missionary Society for 32 years.

Sally and her husband were diligent entrepreneurs. For 50 years they owned and operated service stations, and for 10 years they owned a dry cleaners and a shoe shine parlor.

Sally leaves to mourn her transition and rich legacy of precious memories a devoted son, Everett “Brother” Gholston; a daughter, Dorothy “D’Mae or Dot”; eight grandchildren, Herman A. Custard (Rhoma), Monette C. Wilson (Robert), Bruce T. Custard, Shari C. Custard, Horatio A. Custard, Jr., Sally A. Clayton, Everett L. Gholston, III (Brenda), Sylvia Y. Gholston; one sister-in-law, Gert Freeman; and great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, an extended family, other loved ones and long-time friends whose lives were blessed with her presence.
