Biography
Dr. Henry D. Shannon is Chancellor of St. Louis Community College, a multi-campus system consisting of the Florissant Valley, Forest Park and Meramec campuses. In addition, St. Louis Community College also has four major off-campus centers serving St. Louis City, St. Louis County and portions of Jefferson and Franklin Counties. He was named Chancellor in January 2000. Dr. Shannon earned his undergraduate degree from Harris Stowe State University and his masters and doctorate degrees from Washington University.
He began his career with St. Louis Community College in 1983 as Dean of Student Services at the Forest Park campus and was later named President of that campus in 1992. Prior to his career with St. Louis Community College, Dr. Shannon was a teacher and counselor in the St. Louis Public School System and worked as a counselor and administrator at Harris Stowe State University. After leaving Harris-Stowe State College, Dr. Shannon was an administrator at St. Louis University where he directed the Upward Bound program and was the Assistant Director of the Student Educational Services Center.
Dr. Shannon continues to be an advocate for students and student success and his dissertation focused on strategies to enhance the achievements of African-American high school students.
Currently he is active in many community organizations to support the success of students and citizens in the St. Louis metropolitan area.
