St. Louisan Jeremiyah Love of Notre Dame was the recipient of the Doak Walker Award, which annually goes to the top running back in college football.

The former CBC standout became the first running back in Notre Dame history to win the award, which is named after the former SMU star running back from 1945-49.

Love also earned a trip to New York City as a finalist for the Heisman Trophy Award. He finished in third place behind winner Fernando Mendoza of Indiana and Diego Pavia of Vanderbilt.

As a junior, Love finished with 1,372 yards rushing on 199 carries and 18 touchdowns. He also had 27 receptions for 280 yards and three touchdowns. His 21 total touchdowns were a Notre Dame single-season record.

Love was also the only player in the nation to finish in the top three in scoring, total touchdowns and yards from scrimmage this season.

Love also became a consensus All-American selection this week as he earned First Team All-American recognition from the Associated Press, Walter Camp and AFCA organizations.
