The St. Louis Gateway Classic Sports Foundation in collaboration with Ameren and Andy’s Seasoning, will host live boxing as part of its annual Boxing Hall of Fame Ceremony on Thursday, April 18, at the St. Louis Gateway Classic Sports Complex, 2012 Dr. Martin Luther King Dr.
Following a sold out event last year, the foundation will recognize 13 individuals from the Boxing community including DeAndre Latimore and Bernie Miklasz, who will receive the Gary Bess Award for his outstanding contributions to the St. Louis Boxing community. Other honorees include James Hook, Joe Pound, Danny Bostic, Eric Benford, Steve Nelson, Daryl Wiggins, Ken Green, Hollie Dunaway, Jessie Finney, Gil Garcia and Tom Wheatley.
The accomplishments of each new inductee will be highlighted during the induction ceremony, as they join the more than 160 boxers, coaches, judges and referees who have been inducted into the Gateway Classic Boxing Hall of Fame since 1994.
“This year’s list of inductees reads like a who’s who in the world of St. Louis boxing,” said Richard Gray, President and Executive Director of the Foundation. “To provide recognition to individuals in the boxing community and host live boxing makes for a fun and exciting evening.
This is the second annual ceremony which will include live boxing. Members of the St. Louis Fire Department and Police Department will be featured during eight live bouts. Audience members will also be treated to local amateur talent featuring some of St. Louis’ city recreation boxing clubs.
Tickets for the Boxing Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony are $50 per person. For more information, contact Arthur Tyler at the Gateway Classic office at 314-621-1994, extension 201.
