Saint Louis University closed out the first half of its Atlantic 10 Conference schedule with a resounding 102-71 victory over rival Dayton on Friday night at a sold out Chaifetz Arena.
The No. 21 Billikens won their 15th consecutive game in running their record to 9-0 in A-10 play and 21-1 overall, which is the best 22-game start in school’s history.
The Billikens put together another torrid shooting night as they shot 62 percent from the field and 60 percent from 3-point range as they hit 17 of their 28 shots from behind the arc. SLU raced out to early leads of 8-0 and 27-11 and led by as many as 24 points in the first half.
Dayton was able to cut SLU’s lead to 51-41 with 16 minutes left in the game, but the Billikens scored 51 points in those final 16 minutes to surpass the 100-point mark for the seventh time this season, which is a school record.
Guard Trey Green led the Billikens’ shooting onslaught with 23 points, including seven of 10 shooting from 3-point range. The 6’0” Green also had five rebounds and four assists. Junior guard Ishan Sharma scored 18 points on his six of eight shooting from 3-point range.
Junior guard Quentin Jones had a terrific all-around performance with 18 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals along with a pair of 3-pointers. Senior Dion Brown was the fourth Billiken to score in double figures with 13 points.
The Billikens return to action on Tuesday, February 3 when they travel to Davidson in A-10 action in North Carolina. The game will tip off at 8 p.m. (CT). The game will be telecast on CBS Sports Network and broadcast on KMOX AM-1120.
