St. Louisan Tarris Reed Jr. is one step away from becoming a national champion on the college basketball stage.
The former Chaminade College Prep standout delivered another strong performance, leading UConn to a 71-62 victory over Illinois in the national semifinals of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday in Indianapolis.
The 6’11” Reed scored a team-high 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, leading the Huskies to their third championship-game appearance in the last four years. The Huskies will face Michigan on Monday night for the national championship. Ironically, Reed spent the first two years of his collegiate career at Michigan before transferring to UConn.
Michigan defeated Arizona 91-73 in the other semifinal game to advance to the championship game. The Wolverines became the first team in NCAA Tournament history to score at least 90 points in their first five games.
The national championship game will tip off at 7:50 p.m. (CT). It will be televised on TBS.
