A vigil was held in St. Louis on Friday, Jan. 9, for Renee Nicole Good, who was killed this week in Minneapolis by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent. The vigil was held from 6-9 p.m. at Brentwood Boulevard and Interstate 64. A woman who identified herself as Khaliah spoke with The St. Louis American about why she attended.

Khaliah grew up in the St. Louis area and attended schools in the Ferguson-Florissant School District.

“I just returned back from Minneapolis after serving two years with AmeriCorps, and [Renee Good] unfortunately was killed not far from where I spent two years. … It’s really important for me to be here, because I grew up in a city that has been terrorized by armed police officers, and then I moved to a city that experienced a huge unjust, and now it’s happening again in the city.”
