Hardwood stars-to-be this season

Here are some of the area’s top girls prep basketball players to watch in ‘06-’07.

Brittney Adams (Belleville East): The versatile 5’10” senior can play all five positions on the court. She’s the younger sister of former East St. Louis star Rita Adams.

Jasmine Bailey (Normandy): Talented 5’9” forward who is capable of averaging a “double-double” in scoring and rebounding for the Vikings.

Ashlee Barrett (Incarnate Word): Senior guard who returns to lead the defending Class 5 state champions. Signed with Evansville.

Bianca Beck (Incarnate Word): Talented junior point guard who will expand her role for the Class 5 state champions.

Laurie Bell (University City): Senior guard who will step out of the shadow of talented older sister LaShalya.

Shanika Butler (Gateway Tech): A 5’7” dynamic athlete who averaged nearly 20 points a game as a junior.

Anya Covington (Edwardsville): A 6’2” junior who will be one of the top post players in the metro east.

Theresa Davis (Incarnate Word): Rugged 6’0” senior who will anchor the frontcourt for the defending Class 5 state champions.

Brittany Dodson (Metro): Senior point guard who returns as one of the leaders of the 2006 Class 2 state champions.

Barissa Ford (Clayton): Senior guard who returns after leading the Suburban East Conference in scoring, assists and steals. Signed with Henderson State.

Alisha Goodwin (Althoff): A 5’7” junior guard who will assume a leadership role for the Crusaders after the graduation of star guard Theresa Lisch.

Shameia Green (Normandy): Excellent point guard who led the Vikings to a district title in ’06. Signed with Illinois-Chicago.

Channon Haywood (Hazelwood East): A 6’0” junior who is one of the area’s most impressive athletes. Led the Spartans to their first ever Final Four appearance last season.

Kianna Hogan (Parkway North): An improving 6’2” sophomore that not many people may know about. They will begin to after this season.

Shania Hurst (Kirkwood): Smooth 5’10” senior guard who is one of the best in the Suburban West. Signed with Arkansas State.

Meghan Lewis (McCluer South-Berkeley): Junior guard who has been starting as a freshman. The leader of a bourgening small-school power in North County.

Laquisha Lewis (Mehlville): Senior guard who played a key role in the Panthers’ 28-1 season and berth in the state quarterfinals last season.

LaChelle Livingston (Metro): Senior guard who begins her fourth year of terrorizing opposing ball handlers with her quickness.

Rachel Macon (Carlyle): A 6’0” senior lefty returns after being an All-Cahokia Conference selection as a junior.

Kristen Peebles (Hazelwood Central): An athletic 6’1” junior post player with strong moves in the post and great agility.

DeVonna Smith (Kirkwood): A springy 5’11” junior forward who will join teammate Hurst to make a dynamic combination.

Teandrea Smith (East St. Louis): A talented 6’1” junior who is one of the top underclasswomen in the state of Illinois.

Dalila Thomas (Hazelwood East): A 6’2” senior center who continues to improve throughout her career. Signed with Western Kentucky.

Blaire Underwood (Webster Groves): Junior guard who is one of the top 3-point shooters in the St. Louis area.

KeAmber Vaughn (Hazelwood Central): Senior forward who returns after leading the Hawks in scoring and rebounding as a junior.

Lauren Woods (Belleville East): A 6’1” senior guard-forward who will lead one of the top teams in the metro east. Signed with Saint Louis University.
