The Vashon Wolverines survived their toughest test of the basketball season with their winning streak and No. 1 national ranking intact.

The Wolverines edged Niagara Falls (N.Y.) 69-66 in overtime in last weekend’s Prime Time Shootout in Trenton, N.J. In a battle of nationally ranked teams, Vashon (23-0) handed Niagara Falls its first loss in 20 games while extending its own winning streak to 54 games.

Junior forward Bobby Hill led a balanced Vashon scoring attack with 18 points. Seniors Johnny Hill added 14 points and eight rebounds while senior Kenny Daniels had 13. Junior point guard James Washington scored 11 points, including the jumper that put the game into overtime. Sophomore forward Leon Powell had eight points, 10 rebounds and four blocks. Johnny Hill was selected the Most Valuable Player for the game.

Vashon will conclude the regular season by hosting Chicago Manley on Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. The Wolverines will begin postseason play next week as the No. 1 seed at the Class 5, District 5 playoffs at Soldan and Gateway Tech.
