According to published reports, the big wigs behind the Dreamgirls movie passed on American Idol winner Fantasia for the part of Effie because they didn’t think she had the style or class to pull off the role. Fantasia was being considered for the part made famous by Jennifer Holliday on Broadway. She had major backing from Denzel Washington and Jamie Foxx, but she lost the role to former Idol contestant Jennifer Hudson.
