The Coalition of Black Trade Unionists (CBTU) is sponsoring the 34th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Human Rights Awards Banquet on Monday, January 16.
“In the spirit of Kings’ tireless work on social and workers justice campaigns, we welcome you to join us for labor/community solidarity,” organizers say.
“We invite all labor & community organizations and constituents who fight for human rights and social justice to participate in this important celebration. CBTU continues to support important legislation that will put our community to work including the current and very important American Jobs Act proposed by President Barack Obama.”
The event will be held at IBEW Local 1 Union Hall, 5850 Elizabeth Ave. Doors open 5:30 p.m., dinner at 6 p.m.
Awards will be presented to the following individuals for their contribution to the struggle for social justice, labor and human rights in the tradition of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
- Edward Bell: Retiree of UAW Local 110, member of the St Louis CBTU Chapter.
- Roz Sherman Voellinger: AFL-CIO Community Service Liaison for the Greater St Louis United Way.
- Wiley Price: Photojournalist for the St. Louis American newspaper.
Keynote speaker will be Ken Rigmaiden, Executive General Vice President of International Union Painters and Allied Trades, AFL-CIO.
