Actor and activist Danny Glover disclosed that he has been living with Alzheimer’s disease for the past four years. Glover revealed the news in a sit down interview on “Today” with former “NBC Nightly News” anchor Lester Holt that aired Wednesday morning (July 1). He was diagnosed shortly before receiving the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the Academy’s 2022 Governors Awards.
“I’m sure as it advances, things are going to be different and changing,” Glover said.
Glover’s family sat with him during the interview.
“I think it’s really important for him to have control of his own narrative, of his own life story,” Glover’s daughter, Mandisa, told Holt. “That’s really important. And the time is now. What better time but now for him to speak for himself?
It’s important because people ask questions sometimes, and I don’t want to be a dishonest person and say, ‘Oh, yeah, everything is all right. It’s all great,’” she added.
Glover’s career on stage, film and television has spanned five decades. He is best known for his roles in “The Color Purple” and the “Lethal Weapon” franchise.
