A Pennsylvania prosecutor has announced that no charges will be filed against entertainer Bill Cosby stemming from a woman’s accusation that he drugged and fondled her a year ago.
A month-long investigation found that “insufficient credible and admissible evidence exists upon which any charge against Mr. Cosby could be sustained beyond a reasonable doubt,” said District Attorney Bruce Castor in a statement.
Cosby’s accuser was a 31-year-old woman who claimed that, following dinner with others at a restaurant last year, Cosby invited her back to his home. While there, she complained of stress and tension, and says that Cosby gave her pills that made her dizzy. She alleged that he touched her breasts and placed her hand on his genitals. Cosby, 67, maintained his innocence from the outset.
There have been past allegations that Cosby “behaved inappropriately,” one from a model-turned-lawyer who claimed Cosby tried to drug and grope her 30 years ago, and Cosby did admit to a 1970’s extramarital affair on live TV in 1997, but he has claimed fidelity to his wife, Camille, since then.
The accuser’s father claims that the family does not have further plans for a lawsuit.
