Continuing its role as one of United Way of Greater St. Louis’ largest corporate sponsors, Anheuser-Busch announced a $2 million gift from the Anheuser-Busch Foundation to the 2010 United Way annual campaign on Friday. This year’s donation brings Anheuser-Busch’s total giving to United Way in St. Louis to more than $32 million since 1985.
“With this donation to United Way, Anheuser-Busch’s St. Louis employees continue a proud heritage of helping people in our community,” said Dave Peacock, president, Anheuser-Busch, who also will be the United Way of Greater St. Louis campaign chairman in 2013.
“Contributions of all sizes make a big difference and we encourage everyone to do their part to support this important effort.”
At Friday night’s St. Louis Cardinals baseball game, the Budweiser Clydesdales joined Peacock as he presented the $2 million check to 2010 United Way Campaign Chairman Jim Weddle. The honorary first pitch was thrown by Liam, a 7-year-old whose family received education and support through United Way’s funding of the American Heart Association, following surgery for a rare heart problem.
In addition to the $2 million gift, Anheuser-Busch will formally begin its annual internal employee giving campaign on Sept. 30. Activities to generate awareness and excitement for the program include a kick-off event hosted by Anheuser-Busch senior management and representatives from United Way of Greater St. Louis.
