Last week the Bank of America Charitable Foundation announced its continuing support of nonprofits in the St. Louis community, providing more than $400,000 in unrestricted funding to address critical social issues through the bank’s Neighborhood Excellence Initiative.

Grace Hill Settlement House and Catholic Charities Housing Resource Center have been named 2009 St. Louis Neighborhood Builders through which they will each receive $200,000 in unrestricted grant funding and participate in Bank of America’s Neighborhood Excellence Leadership Program with other nonprofit leaders from 45 communities across the country and London.

Grace Hill works in partnership with neighbors and stakeholders to identify and address the social and economic challenges in North and South St. Louis, with services such as family support, a food pantry, parenting education, job training, case management and an after-school program.

Catholic Charities helps people achieve stability in safe, affordable, permanent housing. Its center answers more than 31,000 calls from people experiencing a housing crisis every year, has enabled more than 1,250 families to purchase a home and has prevented 2,075 foreclosures and 2,760 evictions.

Bank of America is investing $20 million globally in the program this year in addition to the more than $90 million committed over the last five years.
