Special to The American

Last week the Missouri Department of Natural Resources announced it has selected six organizations for grant awards totaling $7.75 million for the Energize Missouri Homes – Homeowner Upgrades and Geothermal Program.

Among the grantees, the Missouri Botanical Gardens will receive a grant award of $1.75 million to provide program services for the City of St. Louis and an 18-county region encompassing much of the eastern and southern parts of the state.

The department has made Energize Missouri Homes grants available through funding received from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The organizations will provide program services to homeowners in defined regions of the state. Interested homeowners may identify their local organization and contact them directly to learn more about the program or may visit the department’s website at EnergizeMissouri.org.

Kip Stetzler, acting director of the Department of Natural Resources, said, “These energy-saving home improvements have the potential to save families hundreds of dollars a year on their utility bill and increase their property’s value.”
