Water bills could rise under St. Louis plan
St. Louis residents could see their water bills rise sharply over the next six years as the city looks to stabilize the finances of its aging water system.
Officials propose phased increases that could add about $29 a month by 2032. The plan, based on a rate study, aims to address aging infrastructure, rising costs and staffing needs while reducing emergency repairs.
A town hall is set for Tuesday at Buder Library, 4401 Hampton Ave., with additional sessions planned.
Student data exposed in Missouri voucher program
The Missouri treasurer’s office inadvertently posted personal data on students in the state’s MOScholars voucher program on its website for nearly a year, according to reporting by the Missouri Independent.
The information — including names, parent emails and scholarship amounts — was removed after the issue was flagged.
Lawmakers from both parties called the disclosure a serious oversight, raising new concerns about the office’s handling and oversight of the $50 million program.
STLCC respiratory care program earns national recognition
St. Louis Community College’s respiratory care program has received the 2025 President’s Award for Excellence in Credentialing Success from the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care.
The award recognizes strong outcomes in credentialing, retention and overall performance.
It marks the program’s sixth consecutive year of national recognition, following four years of receiving a distinguished credentialing success award from 2020 through 2023.
Health center opens in Dutchtown next month
Family Care Health Centers will open a new 27,000-square-foot facility at 3824 S. Grand Blvd. in the Dutchtown neighborhood on May 21, with a ribbon-cutting scheduled for noon.
The site will offer primary care, pediatrics, behavioral health, nutrition services and an on-site pharmacy. Officials said the location was selected to expand access in an area with significant health needs and reduce barriers to care.
Patient visits are expected to begin May 26.
Free STEAM camp offered for high school students
Area high school sophomores and juniors can apply for a free weeklong STEAM camp hosted by Lincoln University of Missouri in partnership with University of Missouri.
Set for July 6-12, the program offers hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering, agriculture and math, along with career exploration.
