The Regional Education and Advocacy Coalition on HIV-AIDS (REACH St. Louis) celebrated World Aids Day on Monday with the announcement that it has received a grant from the Charter Communications Cable Positive Tony Cox Community Fund.
The award, which will provide up to $25,000 in financial and in-kind support, represents an expanded collaboration between REACH St. Louis and Charter.
According to Charter’s Jay Bordeaux and Sandi Colquit of REACH St. Louis, the grant will fund the first African American AIDS Walk, expanded marketing and promotional efforts and the delivery of a social marketing campaign targeting the African-American community, particularly black females between 25 and 44.
African American women have the highest rate of new HIV/AIDS cases, and infections are reaching epidemic levels throughout the black community, signaling a need for expanded educational opportunities for African Americans to learn more about the impact of HIV/AIDS and sexual responsibility.
