Several African-American owned businesses were honored by Mayor Francis Slay and Rodney Crim, executive director of the St. Louis Development Corporation during the city’s business celebration luncheon last Friday at the Renaissance Grand Hotel.

Andy’s Seasoning and owner Katherine Anderson were among those honored with Businesses of the Year recognition.

Other honorees were Guarantee Electrical Co., Bissinger’s Handcrafted Chocolatier, Macy’s, Blackwell Sanders Peper Martin, Mike Shannon’s Steaks & Seafood, DynaLabs, Pogue Label & Screen, Eleven Eleven Mississippi, Rodgers Townsend and S.M. Wilson & Co.

Also under this category, 28 long-time City businesses – one per City ward – were honored for being mainstays in their City neighborhoods, enhancing the quality of life of the neighboring residents and customers.

Developers/Developments of the Year are Choate Construction & Development, C.O.N.E.C.T., St. Louis/Regional Housing and Community Development Alliance, Conrad Properties Corporation, Drury Development Corporation, Gilded Age Lodging Hospitality Management Corporation, OPUS Development NW, LLC and The Lawrence Group.

Quality of Life Awards went to James A. Cloar/Downtown St. Louis Partnership and the late John Rataj, Community Development Administration.

Mayor’s Awards were also presented to the Center for Emerging Technologies and Technology Entrepreneur Center.
