If you would like to open a checking or savings account for the first time, need help managing your current account, or need a second chance to overcome past account problems, an educational program called “Get Checking” might help.
Offered through University of Missouri Extension, the six-hour Get Checking program provides information needed to choose and manage financial accounts. Participants learn how to choose an account that is right for them, including low-cost checking options and how to avoid costly fees; how to keep their account in balance; and how a relationship with a financial institution can help establish credit.
Upcoming programs and registration deadlines are:
– Sept. 23, 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., One Financial Plaza, 501 N. Broadway, St. Louis 63102 (deadline Sept. 15)
– Oct. 4 and 11, 6-9 p.m., Cherokee Place Incubator, 2715 Cherokee St., St. Louis 63118 (deadline Sept. 27).
The fee for the six-hour course is $40 per individual, $60 for a couple opening a joint account. Reduced fees are available on a limited basis, but proof of need is required. Pre-registration is required.
