St. Louis-based Great Central Lumber Company will pay $37,625 to settle a racial harassment lawsuit filed by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

The EEOC charged that a white employee at Great Central’s St. Peters, Mo., lumberyard “regularly directed racially charged epithets toward an African-American co-worker.”

Along with the settlement, Great Central Lumber agreed to discipline the alleged harasser and the supervisor of the two men. The company will also provide mandatory training on harassment to all regular employees at the St. Peters facility, and to all supervisors at facilities in Missouri and Illinois.
