100 Black Men honors Anthony Thompson

Kwame Building Group President Anthony Thompson received a “Corporate Executive Award” from 100 Black Men of Metropolitan St. Louis, Inc. during the organization’s recent Annual Black Tie Gala. The fundraising dinner and awards banquet recognizes local African Americans for their outstanding involvement in community service.

“I am very excited and honored to receive this award,” said Thompson. “I think 100 Black Men of Metropolitan St. Louis is a tremendous organization and I commend them on the outstanding work their members have done in their communities.”

Christopher Young-El, mentoring chair for 100 Black Men of Metropolitan St. Louis, nominated Thompson for the award based on his outstanding contributions to mentoring, education, economic development, and health and welfare.

“Tony had a proven track record in all of those areas,” said Young-El.

He pointed out that Thompson has donated $400,000 in scholarship funds to four universities (the University of Missouri-Rolla, Webster University, Saint Louis University and the University of Arkansas). He is involved in a mentoring program at Northwest Middle School, and KWAME has promoted economic development in the St. Louis area by encouraging minority involvement in the new Busch Stadium and the Lambert-International Airport construction projects.

“He has just done so much this year for his community that he was a natural candidate for the award,” said Young-El.

Founded in 1983, 100 Black Men of Metropolitan St. Louis is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing mentoring services, scholarship assistance and overall support for community development.
