St. Louis License Collector Mavis T. Thompson will host a Silver Entrepreneur Workshop, in partnership with AARP St. Louis, from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 16 at the Monsanto YMCA, 5555 Page Blvd.
Representatives from AARP, various lending agencies, business support organizations and SCORE will be on hand to provide individual advice and counsel. A panel of experts who started businesses after retiring will provide insight as part of the event.
“Older adults have a ton of life and work experience that makes them perfect for business ownership,” Thompson said. “We want to help them, whether they are interested in a home-based business, a franchise or other opportunity.”
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, seniors are the largest group of individuals starting new businesses.Â
“Many adults approaching retirement are more active and ready for their next act,” Thompson said. “Starting a business is a great way to maximize income and remain active and engaged in life. We want to provide the tools and information to help them be successful.”
The workshop is offered at no cost but registration is required. For more information or to register for the event, call 314-622-3306 or email washingtonp@stlouis-mo.gov.
