MasterCard has surpassed its initial goal of committing $1 million in corporate giving to its MasterCard Project Math, which gives funding to organizations in the St. Louis region that work to improve student math achievement. The program was launched in 2006 with a multi-year, million-dollar pledge. Since 2006, MasterCard has given $750,000 grants, and this year the company is fulfilling commitments that total more than $300,000.
Through Project Math, MasterCard underwrites programs that advance the teaching of math in five areas: sharing national and international expertise, facilitating regional partnerships, assisting local school districts, sharing intellectual resources through employee volunteer activities and providing technology donations.
Recipients of the 2009-2010 Project Math funding include Teach for America, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri, Science Outreach at Washington University and Missouri Colleges Fund.
MasterCard has been situated in the St. Louis area for more than 30 years. O’Fallon is the headquarters of MasterCard Global Technology and Operations, which is the company’s largest office.
