Last week the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry recognized Parents as Teachers for its work in supporting state education in innovative and significant ways.
The Missouri Chamber also recognized retiring U.S. Senator Christopher “Kit” Bond, who will played a critical role in the infancy, growth, development and expansion of the Parents as Teachers program. In 1984, then-Governor Bond signed the Early Childhood Development Act which required all Missouri school districts to provide Parents as Teachers services.
Due in part to his efforts, the Parents as Teachers program today includes more than 3,000 programs in all 50 states and six other countries.
“It’s encouraging to see Missouri business leaders recognize our commitment to education and to supporting families in our state,” said Sue Stepleton, president and CEO of Parents as Teachers.
