Recognizing her for “competence and conscientiousness, the Clayton Board of Aldermen has promoted June Waters to the office of city clerk. She is the first African-American to hold the position in Clayton. Hired in 2004 as executive secretary to the city manager, Waters was appointed acting city clerk in September 2005 following Catherine Moore’s resignation. She will maintain the official records of the city, coordinate preparation of board meeting agendas and serve as the election official for the municipality.
