Laura Mabry received the Benjamin Lawson Hooks Excellence in Education Award from the St. Louis County NAACP. She is an assistant principal at Hazelwood Central High School. The award is presented only to six people in Missouri each year, recognizing exceptional educators. Sandra Murdock, third VP and youth advisor for the NAACP, nominated Mabry.
