Obi Nwakanma was recently honored with the Saint Louis University Library Associates Walter J. Ong, S.J. Award for Outstanding Achievement.
Nwakanma, who received his Ph.D. from Saint Louis University in 2008, is prize-winning journalist in his native Nigeria and has published two books of poetry. An assistant professor at Truman State University, he is currently completing a biography about distinguished Nigerian author Christopher Okigbo.
The 41st Annual Saint Louis Literary Awards are at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, in the Anhueser-Busch Auditorium of John and Lucy Cook Hall, 3674 Lindell Boulevard and will include comments from E.L. Doctorow, author of Ragtime and other bestselling novels.
