Voters in the Riverview Gardens School District approved Prop R on Nov. 3 with a 59.39 percent majority. The $15 million, no-tax increase bond issue will provide funds to improve school buildings in the areas of health and safety, security and classroom upgrades.

According to the unofficial results from St. Louis County Board

of Election, Prop R received 1,423 “yes” votes (59.39 percent) and 973

“no” votes (40.61 percent). The bond issue needed a 57.14 percent majority for passage. Voter approval of the bond issue will allow the district to apply for federal stimulus money.

Each of the district’s 12 schools and Central Office will benefit from bond issue projects. Projects include: improving restrooms, meeting ADA requirements, replacing outdated electrical panels and dangerous outdoor walkways, improving security camera systems and securing the perimeter of some campuses.

Bond issue funds also will allow the district to replace asbestos flooring, improve lighting, replace some HVAC systems and paint classrooms.
