On Monday, attorney Charles Polk Jr. admitted that he defrauded the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District out of $45,190 while serving as its counsel under the disastrous administration of former MSD director Willie Horton.

He also pleaded guilty to a charge that he failed to pay taxes on about $540,000 of income in 2002.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Reap said that federal guidelines call for a term of 37 to 46 months and that Polk will be sentenced Aug. 31.

Polk faced 21 other charges that will now not come to trial because of the guilty plea.
