The City of Richmond Heights filed suit against the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) in U.S. District Court. City officials say the move is an effort to protect its community – particularly, residents, neighborhoods, and historic homes – from some of the adverse impacts of the proposed expansion of Interstate 64-U.S. Highway 40.
Specifically, the city strongly opposes having three highway interchanges located within a half-mile stretch through the middle of its residential neighborhoods.
Richmond Heights lost hundreds of properties when the highway was originally constructed.
