Schnuck Markets, Inc. plans to build a new estimated $100 million distribution center at NorthPark in Kinloch in North St. Louis County.
Schnucks’ NorthPark facility will join the company’s current 570,000-square-foot grocery warehouse in Bridgeton, which was built in 1971 and has undergone several expansions to accommodate the company’s growth.
“As we continue to grow, our goal is to offer customers an even larger selection and variety of quality foods, and the new NorthPark facility allows us to do just that,” said Todd Schnuck, chairman and CEO of Schnucks. “This expansion nearly doubles our distribution and warehousing capabilities.”
NorthPark, a 550-acre business park near Lambert-St. Louis International Airport, is a joint venture between Clayco and McEagle.
“Bob Clark and I are delighted and welcome the Schnuck Family to NorthPark,” said Paul McKee Jr., principal at McEagle. “With the support of the state, county and local municipalities, NorthPark has continued to grow and add jobs and capital investment in North County.”
Clark is principal at Clayco, which will lead construction on the project. Forum, a unit of Clayco, will serve as designer, the St. Louis Business Journal reported.
Construction will begin this summer on the 915,000-square foot distribution center, one of St. Louis County’s largest commercial developments in recent years. Schnucks expects the facility to be completed in summer 2016. It will employ about 400 people.
If Schnuck Markets meets certain job creation and other requirements, it will be eligible to receive up to $3.7 million in incentives through the Missouri Works Program, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Economic Development told the Business Journal.
“Not only is this project a big investment in the north St. Louis County community, it’s a major investment in the future of our company and demonstrates our commitment to our customers,” Schnuck said.
Schnuck Markets has more than 10,800 employees in the St. Louis area and reported $2.6 billion in revenue for 2014. Founded in St. Louis in 1939, the company operates 98 stores and 93 in-store pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Iowa.
