Entrepreneur Russell Simmons has endorsed black Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele in his U.S. Senate race against former NAACP chairman Kweisi Mfume, the Democratic nominee.
Simmons endorsed Steele at a back-to-school rally for children last week at the Laurel Boys & Girls Club, near Baltimore.
Later, he headlined a fundraiser for the Senate hopeful in Baltimore along with Radio One founder Cathy Hughes.
Steele says he became friends with Simmons two and a half years ago because the two share interests in minority entrepreneurship and housing.
