The city of St. Louis has awarded nearly $3.9 million in federal housing funds to support affordable housing development and rehabilitation projects expected to create or improve 34 housing units across the city.
The funding, announced by the Community Development Administration, will help finance projects in The Ville, Hyde Park, Fox Park, Dutchtown, Gravois Park and the Central West End. Combined with other public and private investment, the projects represent more than $10.9 million in development activity.
Among the largest awards is nearly $835,000 for The Ville Generations project, which will bring nine newly constructed homes to North Sarah Street in the tornado-impacted Greater Ville neighborhood. The homes are planned for blocks north of Dr. Martin Luther King Drive that were affected by the powerful tornado that struck St. Louis on May 16, 2025.
The funding comes as city leaders continue efforts to rebuild damaged neighborhoods and address a shortage of affordable housing.
Other projects receiving funding include seven new homes in Fox Park, 11 rehabilitated homes in Hyde Park, two housing units in Gravois Park and additional rehabilitation work in Dutchtown. Several projects received supplemental funding to complete previously approved developments.
The awards are funded through the federal HOME Investment Partnerships Program and Community Development Block Grant program, both administered locally by the Community Development Administration.
Funding recommendations were originally part of the agency’s Spring 2025 affordable housing competition but were delayed as staff shifted resources to tornado response and recovery efforts.
The Community Development Administration said the projects will return vacant properties to residential use, support homeownership opportunities and expand the city’s supply of affordable housing.
