Productive Workforce Development L.L.C., United States District Court of Eastern Missouri and Area Resources for Community & Health Services will host the first annual National Offender Workforce Development Conference February 22-24 at the Millennium Hotel in downtown St. Louis.

This conference will attract nearly 300 workforce development professionals from all over the country and Canada to St. Louis to attend workshops covering methods, strategies and best practices that will assist our offender population in securing meaningful employment.

During this three-day workshop, attendees will choose from over 16 workshops presented by some of the country’s top organizations in the area of offender employment issues.

The keynote speakers will be Cheryl “Cheri” Nolan, assistant United States attorney general for the Bureau of Justice Services in Washington, D.C., and Anthony “Tony” Swoope, administrator in the Employment and Training Administration of the U.S. Department of Labor.

These dynamic and knowledgeable speakers will present the most recent information available from their agencies.

According to statistics, more than seventy percent of individuals with a criminal record are either unemployed or underemployed at the time of committing additional crimes. This makes having viable employment crucial to reducing recidivism rates among offenders.

The conference aims to meet the following goals:

* provide innovative and interesting workshops

* allow professionals from throughout the country to come together to share ideas and create new collaborative alliances

* get the most up-to-date information out of Washington, D.C.

* learn the most effective and efficient practices for better serving the offender population.
