St. Louis County Executive Charlie A. Dooley announced that the State of Missouri Division Workforce Development has instituted the Missouri Summer Jobs Program for 2010. This program helped over 1,000 St. Louis County youth develop essential career skills last year.
The program, administered by the State of Missouri Division of Workforce Development and the Missouri Family Support Division, will partner with employers throughout the community and provide youth, from ages 14 to 24, the opportunity to explore possible career paths, learn new skills, and receive valuable on-the-job training and work experience.
St. Louis County youth will be given an opportunity to participate in the $4.4 million program through funding from the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program Emergency Funds.
“Building the skills of our future workforce is vital to the long-term success of the St. Louis area,” Dooley said.
The St. Louis County Missouri Career Center will conduct applicant interviews. Those interested in participating in the program or employers willing to provide job opportunities should visit the website at summerjobs.mo.gov to sign up.
