Owners of Enterprise Rent-A-Car donate $1 million

Last week, the Herbert Hoover Boys & Girls Club announced a $1,000,000 gift from the Taylor family, owners of Enterprise Rent-A-Car, to establish an endowment fund in support of the club’s Character and Leadership Development Programs.

These programs empower youth to support and influence their club and community, sustain meaningful relationships with others, develop a positive self-image, participate in the democratic process and respect their own and others’ cultural identities.

“This generous donation from the Taylor family will help to ensure the long-term financial stability of Herbert Hoover Boys & Girls Club and enhance our ability to provide a safe place for kids to learn and grow,” said Flint W. Fowler, executive director of Herbert Hoover Boys & Girls Club.

“We can’t express our gratitude enough to the Taylors and the entire Enterprise Rent-A-Car family.”

Enterprise Rent-A-Car has been a generous supporter of the club for the past 12 years, donating more than $470,000 to support the club expansion, education programs and special events.

For nearly 40 years, Herbert Hoover Boys & Girls Club has provided young people, particularly those from disadvantaged circumstances, with access to quality programs and services that will help them acquire the capacities they need to succeed.

Programs and services provided to youth include homework assistance, individual tutoring, drug and alcohol prevention, gang intervention, training in computer skills, entrepreneurship and digital photography and video, sports leagues, theater, painting, dance, community service projects, environmental education, free dental and eye care and sports leagues.

Club to host Reach One Teach One

Reach One Teach One, Inc. will hold its competition finals at Herbert Hoover Boys & Girls Club on September 16. The competition is the result of a tour of 20 St. Louis public elementary schools during the “Reasons 2 Achieve Tag Team Tour” held in February.

Each school picked a top student in six different categories – poetry/spoken word, writing, academics, attendance, community service and talent. These students will compete against each other for prizes on September 16. The purpose of this event is to encourage young people to make positive life choices and to award ordinary kids for extraordinary things.
