16 journey to D.C. for Youth Initiative in Health and Policy Development Program

St. Louis-area high school students recently attended the National African-American Youth Initiative in Health and Policy Development Scholars Program at Howard University in Washington, D.C.
Seventy students from across the nation attended the program which included 16 students from St. Louis-area high schools representing Lutheran North, Cardinal Ritter College Prep, Riverview Gardens, Normandy, Metro Academic Classical and Eskridge Wellston High Schools.
Dorian Mabry, a senior from Lutheran North, was one of eight students also selected to attend the National Medical Association Convention held in Hawaii last month.
Mabry joined other students to participate in a youth medical project while attending the convention. Dr. Edward Haynie, executive director of the Incubator Scientist Program said, “Many students are more energized about science research projects related to medical issues after attending the Scholars Program.”
Sandra Murdock, Mound City Medical Forum health education chairman said, “The students expressed enthusiasm about their experiences in the program and gained a wealth of knowledge.”
Intern at ARCHS
ARCHS has immediate openings for Communications Interns. The students must be college juniors or seniors studying communications related majors (marketing, communications, public relations, fine arts, etc.).
The positions are for school credit only, non-salaried. Flexible work hours. This is a great opportunity to build a work portfolio. Assignments may include writing, media relations, photography and design/layout.

Mark Robbins, dean of Syracuse University’s School of Architecture is
seeking young men and women of color interested in pursuing
a five-year professional degree in Architecture. He says he’s deeply committed to bringing diversity to his field and has scholarship money set aside to fully cover education costs for 10 students.
According to him the Latino enrollment in the school has increased substantially, but it’s harder to attract blacks.
