The Missouri Charter Public School Association (MCPSA) held its 1st Annual Charter School Job Fair on Saturday at Imagine Academy of Environmental Science and Math. Ten charter public schools participated and over 100 teacher applicants attended the fair. Schools participating included elementary, middle and high schools; as well as two of the three new schools that will be opening for the 2009-2010 school year. There will be 13 charter schools operating in St. Louis during the upcoming school year.
Carol Clark, one of the teacher applicants that attended Saturday’s event was very pleased with the opportunity to attend and commented, “I think charter schools are a wonderful part of public education in Missouri and it’s nice to see them all come together to hold an event like this, both for the job seekers and for the students that will ultimately benefit.”
One of the participating schools added, “Our school found this very helpful. It gave us new and exciting teachers who are anxious to make a difference in charter schools.”

UMSL offers exam prep for project managers
The University of Missouri-St. Louis offers a two-day Project Management Professional Exam Preparation workshop that focuses on the key concepts in each process and knowledge area and highlights questions covered on the PMP exam, including those on professional responsibility. During the workshop, participants will review sample questions and create a project plan in preparation for passing the exam. The workshop will be held 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 6 – 7 in the J.C. Penney Conference Center at UMSL, One University Blvd.

Maryville U. offers assistance for veterans
Maryville University has announced its participation in a new educational assistance program established by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to provide tuition grants to military veterans. The initiative, known as the Yellow Ribbon Program, begins with fall 2009 enrollment.
Under the Yellow Ribbon provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008, Maryville University has chosen to partner with the VA to fund the cost of tuition above the highest rate charged in Missouri by a public undergraduate university. Participating institutions will waive up to 50 percent of the difference between that state benchmark and their own tuition cost; the VA will match the same percentage as the institution. The VA will also cover up to $1,000 in mandatory fees per semester.
Veterans who attend Maryville University through the Yellow Ribbon Program may receive tuition assistance for each semester through completion of their degree program.
