Poll: local entrepreneurs plan to hire

St. Louis area job seekers may want to start polishing up their resumes. A new poll of members of the St. Louis branch of the Entrepreneurs Organization (EO) shows that while most members plan to hire new employees in the first quarter of this year.

Of the nearly 57 percent planning to bring on new workers, 82 percent expect to hire skilled or professional workers, nearly 4 percent are looking to fill administrative positions and 14 percent listed the prospective new hires as other.

Among the poll’s other findings, when asked how they planned to recruit for those positions, more than 44 percent of St. Louis EO members said they will post the listing to online job boards or websites. Another quarter of those asked said they plan to find new hires through word of mouth, while only 11 percent anticipate using a professional recruiter and less than 5 percent say they’re likely to place an ad in the classified section of the newspaper.

“I think these poll numbers are a great sign of how local small businesses have persevered, even in tough economic times,” said Dan Curran, Communications Chairman of EO St. Louis.

“Despite the recent downturn in the economy, it’s very encouraging to see how many local entrepreneurs are feeling optimistic enough about their businesses to hire new employees.”

EO is a dynamic global network of more than 7,300 business owners in 42 countries. Founded in 1987 by a group of young entrepreneurs, EO acts as a catalyst enabling members to learn from each other and help their businesses succeed.
