Hazelwood West High School students won three Best of Show honors and 15 other awards at the Sponsors of School Publications annual spring conference.
Seniors swept the Best of Show categories. Michael Womble received the top honor of Best of Show in Yearbook Sports Design. Chris Snow earned Best of Show for Broadcast Sports Story, while Courtney Asadorian and Zach Grzeskowiak earned Best of Show in the Broadcast News Story competition.
Nine students earned individual yearbook awards. Junior Samantha Glandon earned an excellent and an honorable mention in Yearbook Photography. Senior Jamie Ryan received a superior mark for Yearbook Theme Design and an honorable mention in Yearbook Photography. Senior Stephanie Crawley earned a superior rating for Yearbook Opening Copy and an honorable mention for Yearbook Feature Copy. Senior Karen Hecksel earned a superior rank for Yearbook Feature Copy and senior Leah Shipley earned an honorable mention for Yearbook Feature Copy.
In the newspaper contests, West students received six awards. They include senior Jessica Matteson, who received an excellent rating for Newspaper Art and Entertainment Design, Abby Klobe, who earned honorable mentions in both Newspaper Front Page Design and Newspaper Inside News Design. Senior Jamie Ryan received an honorable mention for Newspaper Photography), senior Keith Rogers earned an honorable mention for Newspaper Sports Writing), and junior Lindsey Manno earned an honorable mention for Newspaper News Writing.
The conference was held March 13th at Webster University.
