Curstan Dye, a junior at Cardinal Ritter Prep High School is one of a select group of outstanding St. Louis students to be awarded the KMOX Student of Achievement Award. The annual award recognized 30 students who show outstanding achievement in academics, athletics, the arts, community service and leadership.
The award program began 16 years ago under the leadership of legendary KMOX broadcaster Jack Buck.
“We’re very proud to see Curstan receive this honor,” said Leon Henderson, president of Cardinal Ritter Prep. “The award recognizes everything we strive to instill in Cardinal Ritter students. Curstan has shown outstanding leadership skills and a strong dedication to community service. It’s great to see her efforts recognized.”
Dye will be offered a full-tuition scholarship to Southeast Missouri State University for the fall of 2010. The scholarship is renewable for three additional years with a 3.5 cumulative grade point average.
Dye will be recognized at a luncheon in May where she will receive the scholarship along with gifts from sponsors and a $100 savings bond. She will also be featured in an on-air vignette “Student of Achievement” that will run on KMOX radio and television stations in March.
Cardinal Ritter College Prep High School has educated students from the entire St. Louis region for almost 30 years and opened a new, state-of-the-art school in Grand Center in 2003. Bond accepting applications for U.S. Service Academies
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Kit Bond announced he is accepting applications for nominations to the U.S. Service Academies for the class entering in 2010. Nominations to the Air Force, West Point, Merchant Marine, and Naval Academies are available for qualified applicants.
“The United States Service Academies offer an excellent opportunity to pursue an outstanding education while preparing to serve your country,” Bond said. “It takes a great deal of commitment, dedication, and leadership to make it at the academies, but the rewards are well worth the hard work.”
Applicants must be between 17 and 23 years of age, U. S. Citizens and legal residents of Missouri. Persons who will graduate from high school in 2010 are eligible to apply. Nominees are chosen using the “equal and competitive” method for selection and on the basis of personal merit including evidence of character, leadership, scholarship and motivation.
This year the Senator is accepting online applications only. Interested applicants may apply via a secure website (www.bond.senate.gov), which will allow them to continually check the status of their application. All application materials must be submitted by November 13, 2009.
